looking for Albin owners in Western NY

Post by turtlemoon »

Hi All,
I just bought my first Albin, a 27FC, it is being shipped from Greenwich CT this week.
I'm looking for Albin owners in WNY who would be available to show me the ropes.
I am an experienced boater, I was a Coxswain in the USCG in the 70’s and have owned power boats, this is my first Albin. I have always wanted one and I finally found a nice one. I’m looking forward to many enjoyable outings.

Congrats, Swabby!

I'd be interested in hearing a bit about why you have long been interested in owning an Albin?

I'm also an "experienced" recreational boater, however, my 65 years in small boats has been in everything BUT power boats. I think we found our Albin-25 a couple of years ago more or less by accident. I must have seen Albin sites after googling "low-power motor cruisers", or something. I know I had never actually seen one up close, nor had even heard of them. Anyway, the more I read, the more the A-25 appealed to me as a successor to our 28-ft Sailing Yawl. Of course all of the Albins I was reading about were located on either the East Coast, or the PNW. Then when we saw on for sale in Madison, WI, just 85 miles away, we jumped on it.

Now we are meeting folks who walk up to our boat saying things like "An Albin! I cruised all over Lake Superior in one of those!"

Hey there turtlemoon! That's a nice looking Albin! Congratulations! Just wondering if had dealings with Bob Milano? We bought our 40 NSC in Cos Cob where Albin is/was based.
Good luck!!!
It's all about relaxation :)

Thanks, it really is an exceptional boat, reminds me of the old CG 44’ with the survivors cabin in the stern.
I have only seen a few Albins, and always stood with my jaw open, they are so beautiful and unique. I have joked with my friends after I bought it, that if Fred Flintstone ever designed a boat, it would look just like my Albin! But they really are so amazing.
This summer I was in Merrimac river with an old CG buddy aboard his Grady White and expressed my interest in an Albin, he said the 28TE was his dream boat. Well one day while surfing Yachtworld I came across this one in Greenwich CT, I thought the price was fair so I had it inspected and bought it sight unseen. The surveyor said that he owned one and for its age, I wasn’t going to find a nicer one.
The boat arrived at River Oaks Marina Friday morning via truck and trailer during a horrible thunderstorm, so like anybody who has ever waited patiently for a new toy, I broke out my umbrella and climbed aboard. She was perfect, not just perfect, perfect for me.
Turtle Moon is resting on blocks and stands ready for winterizing and shrink wrap. Spring won’t get here fast enough for this sailor.
Thanks you for your kind words,
Lee

Ahoy there Turtle Moon. When you get to traveling this summer stop by the Gasport Marina. We will have room for you. I bought an Albin 25 in Lyons NY. last fall, found it just by accident while traveling with friends on the Canal. Did some work to it last fall and it's looking good. We would be glad to see your boat if you get down the Canal. Dock space is free for a few nights. Craig Erickson

Hi, where is the Gasport Marina? I work in Lockport and used to live in Gasport. I used to see an Albin at Widewaters. i will get down the Canal for sure. I was going to sail her home via the canal, but time would not permit.
