Interesting. I'll have to see if it's available here. You'll have to report back after a season, I know my decks get filthy, and I don't fish!Tree wrote:I'm not sure Doug, I assume you have sikaflex over there? It's like boat life products but a lot better! It'll stay white for quite a while, it's like bathroom sealant in the same way it doesn't let dirt stick to it.

Re: Fuel Tank Cover...
It's brilliant stuff, we used it on an old wooden boat instead of caulking the timbers - never needed doing again!
They also had the sikaflex challenge at the Southampton international boat show, where teams were given sikaflex, plywood and an outboard motor. You can imagine the rest - it was always a great advert for the stuff! My only concern is removing it when I need to access the hatch one day.

Re: Fuel Tank Cover...
Does sikaflex equate to 3M 5200 sealant? If so then it will be difficult to remove. There is a solvent though, which aids in the removal of 5200...
Have fun,

Re: Fuel Tank Cover...
I figured if anyone here would carry it it would be Jamestown Distributors. And they didn't disappoint!

Is this the "type", 291, that you use?
Here the reference adhesives are, as Joe mentions, 3M's 5200 (considered "permanent"), and 4200 (just a bit less than permanent!)

That's the one, though there are different types. We always keep a small tube in the tool box.

Fuel Tank Cover...
Just to throw in another opinion---- Have been using caulking products since 1986. I soon found 3M's 4200 ,4000, and Boatlife products to be my favourites. (I don't use 5200 much as there are very few applications I might want to get apart). I quit using Sikaflex because it has the wonderful habit of getting everywhere but where I wanted it. It's a bit of a stringing product compared to the others.

Re: Fuel Tank Cover...
bccanucker,
I have found over the years that using baby wipes when applying the stuff works wonders - I just apply the sikaflex then wrap a wipe around my finger to clean the excess off, lovely smooth finish and it cleans as it goes.
cheers
Lee
