FUEL TANK ACCESS ON GATSBY TYPES

Have removed the transom seat and attached floor panel in order to clean out tank. USCG requires boat builders to provide "ready" access to lines in and out of tanks. How is this requirement satisfied in newer 28s? I am thinking of installing an access hatch over the area, but this would present a "stumble point."

I have not seen any 28's with access hatches to the fuel tank connections. What did you end up doing. A deck plate would not be a stumble hazard, but could allow water intrusion if not of good quality and properly installed.

The removal and re-installation (not yet done) of the transom seat and deck assembly is a genuine PITA! Greatest challenge has been the removal of the old sealant. Local boat builders tell me that USCG regs require "ready access" to the fuel lines to and from the tank. Did Albin stop building prior to this regulation? I have chosen to install an access hatch. Will post a photo when finished. It remains to be seen what the stumble effect will be.

Look fwd to the photos. I pulled the floor section over my tank to change the sender and check all hoses, etc. and yes 99% of the time was spent cleaning the old adhesive sealant.

Any tricks to removal of sealant?

I recently removed the access "L" panel under the foot rest in front of the helm of my 28 TE. I worked the old sealant with a utility knife (new blade) and after several passes, was able to free an edge and then kept "slicing" until the panel was freed. The remaining sealant simply rubbed off.
