Newport model

Post by TimQ »

Any guesses as to how many Newports were built? I'm trying to decide if it's worth waiting for the right one to come to market. The selection isn't to great right now but maybe a few is all there usually are.

My super scientific answer would be - not too many. So the question would be - just how long are you willing to wait? It's not easy to find the exact boat to meet your every desire, so if you find one with the major features you want, that can't be easily retro-fitted, I'd go for it.

I didn't wait and I have been paying for it ever since. The admiral reminds me of my mistake regularly.

Did you skip something major? Wanted an FD but bought an engine box? Skipped the transom door? Tqoops is looking for a fairly limited model (Newport), so I don't see what waiting is going to do for him. There's not a lot of availability.

Actually I was merely trying to determine if it made sense to focus on that model at all.
After looking at other flush decks and working on an engine box model I'd buy any of them. It's mainly an issue of finding a good one that's been properly cared for and priced right.
I like all these boats!

I don't think you can go wrong! :)

Also, re-reading my post just above I sound rather harsh. Pasteur, I hope you didn't take offense! None was intended.

Dougsea,

No offense taken. But perhaps I should have explained. I love, absolutely love, my 28 TE and have no regrets.

The problem is that this boat does everything and it does it with some style. I use it as a fishing boat and an easy ride to Montauk. The Admiral insists it's her cocktail boat for cruises around Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor. I'm glad that I don't have the extra Newport Edition overhang impeding casting and a bench preventing me from jumping on a screaming reel. She wishes that Zero PSI had more seating, especially protected seating for our friends.

With the Albin 28 there are no bad decisions. If you want a sturdy, reasonably priced, fuel efficient, low maintenance boat that's easily managed singlehandedly get a 28. The various editions/versions are just minor adjustments to the compromise.

Well the rear (transom) bench is certainly not that when underway but I must agree that more helm/pilothouse seating would be nice. This is a big 28ft boat and that's one of the areas that she skimps on which I guess results in the roomy cabin and big cockpit.
