35 TE Nomenclature

Post by seasalt »

A recent post by Mariner in the Swap/Trade/Sell offers some excellent advice on how to describe your Albin should you choose to sell it. He states that a 35 TE with a bridge should be listed as a 35 TE FB. My question concerns how many different configurations of the 35 TE were built?

When I purchased mine it was listed as a 35 TE SF. The SF, I assume, is for sport fish. On my boat the steering station is in the middle of the bridge with seating forward. I understand that some versions were built with a cruising helm located in the forward bridge area. What name would that configuration be called?

Another question is how many of each style were built? Perhaps we should start a registry of hull numbers, which I would be glad to administer, similar to the 36 ET.

If any 35 TE (with or without a bridge) owners would like to respond with their particulars, I will get started. In addition to hull number, name, and home port I would like to know on the bridge models where the steering station is and what nomenclature you use to describe it. It would also be interesting to know which boats are galley up with the bunk room and which are galley down.

I bought a great boat from a great guy...Chuck Waygood...who has been very patient of my constant questions about what does what.

Hi Ron,

First things first, you may want to buy a burgee and get access to the library. There's a good 35TE brochure and line drawing set in there.

Here's a brief start on nomenclature. This is in "Albin speak" as there's disagreement on some of the terms in the boating world.

For a fly bridge boat you have the Sportfish and the Convertible. SF has the aft helm with a view of the transom, Conv has the helm centered and forward. The Convertible was the "standard" FB model but I'd guess more were sold wit the SF bridge. (Purely based on my observations of guys spending their money!)

Either of those models may or may not have a lower helm. Mine does not.

Then you have either the 2 or 3 cabin versions, also referred to as Galley up or galley down. The 3 cabin boat has the master, guest stateroom with bunks, and the pullout sette in the salon. The galley is also part of the salon. The 2 cabin boat has the master and the pullout sette. The galley is "down" and occupies the space of the guest stateroom.

I'd be happy to participate in a registry (I think I suggested that in a prior post) and will send you my particulars.

I'd capture
Name
Hailing Port
Owner(s)
Model
Lower Helm (FB models only)
Cabins / Galley
Year
HIN
Color
Tower (Legacy out of Boston is a "standard" 35 TE with a tower added)
Engine(s) make and HP
Generator (make and Kw)
Swim platform
Owners notes. (For example, A-list has a full size refrigerator. Mine does not. Also, many FB boats have had hardtops added)
Would be nice to include a photo.

Doug,

Thanks. Off we go. I am ready to receive the specs you suggest from those interested. Should I start a new topic called a call for information or ???

Chuck left a burgee on the boat so I will buy a hat.

I'm thinking we could put together an Excel spreadsheet pretty easily and open it up to all of our TE brethren under a new topic that I can "stick" up at the top of the TE forum. Common data in the first columns and then a few specialty ones for the 3 major models.

I realize that's more than you signaled interest in. What do you think?

Ron,

Looking at the equipment sheet, I have the 35' "Convertible/Sedan" Tri-Cabin model which is ( Queen Salon forward, Over/Under Berth cabin , Main Salon -Galley up). My boat has the hardtop and outriggers, twin 350 cats etc. Love the boat, only issue I really have is the poor handrail design. Shrinkwrap force broke off a bunch of studs and needed to be rewelded. Only problem is that you can't get the bolt on in most of the areas because of poor access.

I don't see many of these boats in the New England area.

Hi all,

As you see above Ron and I had a back and forth discussion going. We put together a spreadsheet for ALL of the TE models and I ran it by John.

Now, with his blessing I'm going to be posting the sheet as a "sticky" here in the TE forum, just got a bit busy and want to make sure that I write it up correctly.

Ron and I will administer the list and keep the most current in the "sticky" post. Stay tuned for more soon!
