Access to toilet bolts

Post by Nancy »

Suppose you wanted to install a new toilet. How would you access the bolts? It pains me to think we're stuck with a Jabsco forever.

My recollection from when I running my AC discharge line is that there's room under there to reach your hand in through the cabinet. Don't want to sound dumb, but did you try that?

That doesn't sound dumb at all! The possibility didn't occur to me. I was at home when I started thinking about swapping the toilet, and looked at the photos to see how it could be done and the answer wasn't obvious.

I'll check it out. Possibly the job will require a contortionist, but hey, it's a boat.

Nancy, when I replaced my Jabsco last season the bolts were actually lag bolts just threaded in. Had the same setup on another boat. They came out without much fuss.

Looking forward to the details on the new head. Worth noting, if you're going electric, that the Jabsco lite flush is marketed as a direct replacement in terms of bolt pattern. Priced around the same as some of the Raritans...

They are lags, not machine thread (no nuts)

The replacement, if it happens, would likely be a Raritan PHC manual toilet. I think I've had enough fun with Jabsco, and I don't think I want to get into wiring an electric head. But yes, we'd have to deal with different bolt holes.

Thanks to all for the info on the lag bolts.
