Sylvester P. "Butch" Bollinger

Post by jcollins »

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then she is gone!
“Gone where?”

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: “There, she is gone!” there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: “Here she comes!”

And that is dying.

Butch joined us in June of 2006 and was a Gold Supporting Member. He loved fishing, his Albin The Mary B, and his beautiful wife Mary. Mary and Butch quickly became friends with anyone they met. Everyone was asking me at the Rendezvous "where's Butch"? Butch died July 19th 2012. He had 14 brothers and sisters. He founded Bollinger Energy. A company supplying pertroleum, natural gas, and electricity to the mid-atlantic.

Rest easy my friend...we miss you.

I just read his last posts and it was about his health hopefully not getting in the way of his attendance at the 2012 rendezvous. A dedicated member right to the end. I enjoyed his posts on fuel and the friendly sarcasm and humor he so often included.

A reminder of all AOG members that have left us. Butch was a great guy. It's hard to believe it's been 9 years.
