Navigation lights, How to replace bulb?

Post by Bluey »

Dumb question, but how do I get inside the enclosure for the green or red nav lights so I can replace a bulb?

There's a small, entrapped, flathead screw at the base of the lens unit. Loosen that and then pull the bottom out and up.

(I'm assuming you have the AquaSignal Series 41 fixtures)

Nice Rob...

They do make USCG approved replacement LED lamps for the Series 41s.

But the Hella's are much sleeker and easier to clean around. (BTW - You can see the set screw in the original fixture photo)

Looks like a good opportunity to kerplunk things I don't want to kerplunk. I'd go with the Hellas, but I just dumped money into a new fridge. Maybe this winter.

That's one reason I like Aqua Signal. The screw has a retaining washer on it so it shouldn't kerplunk!

Yes these are nice but if it's just a bulb no need to spend the dough here. They are not cheap and who really cares about the LED efficiency since these are only on when underway. My starboard light housing was cracked since I bought the boat and held in place with packing tape for 5 years. I finally got down the to-do list far enough to replace it last season.
