I have contacted Mack Boring in regard to installing an EGT gauge on my 6LP (315 Yanmar) I have the instrument and know where it should go (Don't go there Rob). The probe on the gauge is 3/8"npt male and I want to adapt it to a 10mm female threaded opening on the exhaust manifold.
Boating is fun.

Re: Installing EGT Guage
Those sizes are awfully close. I don't know if it's even possible to make a bushing that size.
Can you get a different probe tip in 10mm? That or drill out the hole and tap it in an NPT size, 1/2" I'd think, and get a 3/8-1/2 bushing.
You could try Jay's magic source as well I suppose - McMaster?
Sorry to not be more helpful.

Re: Installing EGT Guage
I called Pat D twice and even spoke to him. I am waiting for his call. Rob from Superior is somewhere out there. The job is not that big and probably not worth their time. I found a local mechanic who was down at my marina who used to service my merc-cruiser to do the work. All I have to do is find this adapter. It is not the end of boating not to have this instrument. However, I intend to do long time running...just another back up.

10 mm is larger than 3/8 so just tap with the metric pipe tap.

Re: Installing EGT Guage
Well guys, after some serious research I decided no to install the egt GAUGE. I could order a 1/8 " npt probe but that still leaves me a drill and tap scenario. To drill out the 10 mm hole and tap it to 1/8 or 3/8 is feasible. However, there is a remote chance that metal shavings could be in ingested by the turbo which might ruin my day. Bottom line, the major benefit to the gauge is how long do you expect to keep this engine. Commercial owners would probably better suited for an EGT instrument. On a second note, this month's Boating mag has a great article on Mac Boring.
