28TE on Mud

Question, I have a slip reserved at Wellfleet Marina, Cape Cod, MA.

They tell me at low tide the boat will be on mud. Water goes out completely at low tide. Marina tells me it is no problem.

Is it OK? I had planned on being there 4 days/

Easy for them to say ... "no problem". Possible issue as your boat rolls over onto its side ... engine saltwater sea strainer plugs with mud. Most of those strainers are starboard aft, right where she will rest and roll. Baitwell and saltwater factory installed strainers are opposite on the port side. I'd say no thanks and find somewhere that she will float.

I'd want a better definition of "on mud". Do the boats settle into it upright? (Only acceptable answer would be "Yes. And we guarantee that") And I'd probably close my seacocks to keep anything from getting into my plumbing.

Here's the Chris Jay after Hurricane Sandy left NJ. I was lucky the blocks stayed under the forward keel. Another Albin 28 also went over and lost the engine due to water intrusion.

From what you describe it sounds like she'd be totally high and dry. My opinion - Absolutely not. "Maybe" with a small outboard boat with a fairly flat bottom and engine tilted up.

Also, are you planning on staying aboard? This don't look too accommodating..

Seeing those Albins on their side is upsetting, it's just not right. I always wonder how my old Albin made out in the storm, it went down to Stamford or Bridgeport I think and I know they got hit pretty hard there. If anyone has any knowledge about the old Red Stripe please post it here. Thanks. Denis

Yes but luckily those boats had repairable damage. Bob from Staten Island's 28TE was really upsetting. Fortunately he did okay with insurance proceeds but he had a lot of TLC in that boat.
