Has anyone attempted to weather proof the single/double door stern lockers on the 28TE?

Re: Waterproof Stern Lockers?
I thought about trying it on our 28, but it just didn't seem practical. You could probably put foam weather seal around the opening, mounted to the bottom, not the lid. If you wanted to go to the next level you could then use a router to put a channel in the lid. You'd also need to secure them closed. Seems to me a fair amount of work, and I doubt you'd get it water "proof" but you could certainly reduce the amount of water that gets in.

Re: Waterproof Stern Lockers?
I put weather seal around the perimeter of the doors and it cut down water infiltration significantly. I also put a piece on the end of the door so that it touches the other when closed. That piece has been a problem. It won't stay on for long. I thought about running a piece of thin starboard along the top of one of the doors to overhang the other when closed like a cabinet.

Re: Waterproof Stern Lockers?
Since they were originally designed as a live-well (small one) and fish box (big one) they weren't worried about sealing them, and that's how we use them overall. When cruising, they hold chairs, fenders, etc., but with the full enclosure, we don't have to worry much about it. I'm not sure you could really make them weatherproof just because of the design. One thing you could consider is a snap-on cover to go over them, overlapping to prevent intrusion, but making access simple w/a few snaps. I had my canvas man make one to go over the entranceway for the winter to keep out the cold breeze with the full enclosure. Good Luck!
