Marine salvage dealers

Post by Mike Ebert »

I have been scrounging for a used motor and gearbox for my Muir windlass. I hardly use the thing and the replacement cost is more than a brand new one by the other manufacturers. At risk of sounding like a vulture, are there any salvage yards on the East Coast that somebody can recommend? With the hurricaine damage, there must be a lot of used stuff on the market back there.

There are several in S. Florida; sailorman in Palm Beach, Marine Liquidators in Ft. Pierce; and at least 2 or 3 in Stuart. Probably more furtheer south that I don't know of. Not much here in the NE.

Check out Second Wave in Seattle, 206-632-4371, http://www.secondwave.cc . They have a LOT of stuff and a cataloging system that seems to allow them to keep track of what they have.
