Loose or abandon wires

Post by Serenity »

I am in the process of installing a new Ray-Marine system and an additional VHF. In order to remove the radar cable and GPS cables I removed the starboard panel aft of the helm. I also removed an access plate on the starboard overhead where I intend to mount the VHF. In the opening of the access area there is a black, #4 or #2 awg wire bundled with a pink, purple, yellow and white 14 guage wires. There is no power to any of the wires. To make things even more interesting I can not determine where they terminate. They travel through the starboard wireway above the window and then travel down at the access panel. They appear to go forward but they don't travel towards the battery. Any clues to what these wire are for and where they go? I was thinking maybe for a search light.

the purple, yellow and white were laid in there by the factory for future overhead accessories. they should be dead ended behind the dash or under the throttle. drawing a blank on the pink at the moment..

Rob thanks. That makes sense dead ended under the throttle. I didnt see any wires behind the helm.

I took a couple shots behind the dash before I gutted everything last winter. They were behind the dash tucked tight in the corner along the hull side just above where the steering tubing comes up. See green annotations.

Rob, thanks again. I will take a look tomorrow. Perhaps I will find the black ground as well. Do you know if there is a DC wiring diagram for th Albins? I was going to contact C & C if they had anything.

Rob, found the wires on the port side of the helm all bundled up and stuck in the corner. The black and white are dead ended. The pink is hot, and the purple and yellow are terminated to the ground terminal strip.

Thanks again
