36 DC hull thickness

Post by meridian »

Any idea what the hull thickness is? I'm looking to buy a Garmin thru-hull transducer that the specs say max hull thickness of 5/8".

Hi, I have a Albin 43 and I just put in a new thru-hull and the thickness I found was just under that 5/8". When picking a location try to keep in mind if you are close to a stringer or other fiberglass laminated structure you will have the fiberglass reinforcing thickness of that to add to the hull laminate. Try to stay about 8 " away from these structures to avoid added thickness.

Good luck,
Paul

I plan on just siliconing mine inside the hull...unless fishing the slight reduction in transducer clarity isn't worth the thru-hull.

I had a transom mounted transducer from my Boston Whaler that I tried to use but it wouldn't shoot through the glass.

I epoxied (Humminbird's kit) one inside the hull on my old Mainship and it worked as well as the thru hull did.
Even fishing...ok let me clarify that by saying I caught as many fish with that transducer as I did with the thru hull one. Those transducers lie as much as the weathermen.
(don't ask for a fish count)

5/8's is fine. I've just replaced some thru hulls and I've measured it.
