Warming the oil

Quick question for those who change their own oil. Will idling the engine at the dock get the oil warm enough for an easy oil change, or do I need to run her under load? Trying to plan my attack on the start of my winterization. She's located in the cool water of Scituate, MA.

At dock no, need to get under load. With multi-weight oil not too big a deal unless you feel like a ride..

You will get it "maybe" to 140 F if you put it in gear at the dock and maybe 1000 rpm.
I have changed my oil many times when it's cold. With a drain hose at the bottom of the oil pan I believe you will get the bad stuff out.
