Fueling

Post by Jbulluck »

I have a 1981 36 tri cabin and have an issue with taking on fuel. The fuel will not flow at full speed without blowing back in your face. I have cleared the vents and even had the elbow on the tank replaced and it still does it. I think the new, larger hoses and pumps are just too much for the intake. Please tell me if you have a suggestion.

There are pumps that deliver at a high volume for filling commerical vessels. Could this be the case at your marina?

I think that is the problem, I was able to get 95 gallons in the starboard tank yesterday but it took forever. The port side was even slower. I get my fuel from a charter fishing company and it occured to me that this is a problem that I will not overcome.

I can't use a high volume pump either if that's any consolation.

My winter storage marina had this issue, and they were willing to make a modification that helps all us folks with slow-fill fuel necks. All they had to do was put a ball valve in the pump output. Now they can adjust quickly....full open for most commercial boats, but 1/3 open for us.
I think it's worth asking if this is your primary fuel depot....
