36 Classic Outlet wiring
36 Classic Outlet wiring
I though I completed a rewire of the 120V system on our 1981, 36Trawler. I was mistaken. I believed that there was one circuit (breaker) that controlled all outlets and when I installed a new distribution panel and wiring I thought the job was done. However, as I was leaving the boat this a.m., I inadvertently left a dehumidifier ON in the bathtub. When I shut the outlet breaker the dehumidifier stayed on. I have another circuit that I know nothing about. Can any of you experienced owners set me straight?

Good Day!
I think I don't understand the question. Do you have 2 circuits in question? You "re-wired"...what does that mean...just replaced the fuses / breakers..or pulled and replaced wiring and all?
Sorry, but without more details, I just don't know what you're looking for.

Re: 36 Classic Outlet wiring
Pulled the AC breakers, installed new AD Distribution panel, kept one breaker for "outlets". Replaced all wires (except outlet wires) with Triplex 12. The cable for the outlet goes from the new distribution panel breaker to an existing Square D box with a GFI breaker. Apparently there are 2 circuits. What is the source of the second (port side) cable is the question.

Re: 36 Classic Outlet wiring
On Sea Crawler, our 1980 36 Trawler, the red wire from the CB "Outlets" leads to the outboard 2nd bottom screw on the AC terminal strip. A jumper strap is used between the 2nd last and last screw. On the opposing side (inboard side), 3 wires are connected leading to the various outlets.
My guess is that you have one of the outlet wires connected directly to the 120V AC HOT line, which happens to be the 3rd screw from the bottom.

Robert,
Looks like you've solved my problem. Will check it out on Tuesday when I return to the Albin. Thanks a lot.

Re: 36 Classic Outlet wiring
All of our 120VAC duplex sockets were wired with the hot (red) and neutral (black) wires reversed. Red is hot leaving the breaker, but was wired to the neutral lead on all sockets. The black wire is neutral on our 1979 wiring scheme. I reversed every duplex socket on the boat. So all oif you might want to use a polarity checker for your sockets.
I recently replaced our 12V 120VAC norcold refrigerator that had never worked on 120VAC breaker. It would only work on 12VDC. I didn't know there was a socket behind the refrigerator that the refrig was plugged into. Yep it was wired backwards too. Fixed the socket and the Norcold started working on the 120AC. BTW we replaced the Norcold with a U-Line 1175R refrigerator ( 120VAC only). It is a refrigerator only with no wasted space for the freezer we had to constantly defrost on the Norcold. Requires me to leave the inverter on at anchor. Seems to run a lot less and uses less of the house batteries overnight that the norcold which seldom stopped running on the 12VDC.
