hot WATER heater

WOW.... how do you remove the hot water tank from where it is located. I have a 1994 28T albin. seems it is to big to get out of the compartment that it is in all the lines and screws holding. the tank down have been removed .... besides cutting it in half ... how is it removed thanks

Well i cut theouter covering of the tank off and slid it out .... NOW to find a replacement to fit any suggestions

I have a 98 and there is a removable panel underfoot at the helm. There are only 6 screws holding it in place. Once removed, you should have room to remove the heater. However, in your case, perhaps it would be easier to replace the heater. I haven't done it myself, but I hope that is the answer.

yes i have the hatch underfoot at the helm... i still had to cut up the outer jacket to get the tank out... i have to now find a replacement that will fix i am hoping someonne else has done a replacement...

WOW i cant believe that on one on this site has ever changed a hot water heater on their 28 albin. I have just ordered a seaward 6 gal water heater ... hope it fits ... will let you all know how i make out...

Search "hot water" with the authors RicM and Tomcat Rio. Tomcat hasn't been around for a while so I'm not sure the pictures are still up. Pretty sure Ric got his out through the floor hatch at the helm. Others have discussed removing the tackle drawers under the the helm seat.

I cheated and replaced the thermostat and heating element and one other component as I was not looking forward to the R&R on that project. I did this 2 or 3 years ago and everything works like a charm. I have a 6 gal. Force10 which is now Kuma. I called Kuma for parts and they sent me all the parts for free and I only paid like $ 10.00 for shipping. I got lucky with the owner answering the phone. He switched me over to customer service to finish up and the gal said he always does that when he answers, which isn't often!

KJG, I just want to know how it is that your '94 has the floor hatch at the helm and our '95 does not. I suppose I'll put it on my fiberglass fantasy list along with a transom door.

Nancy: That is the first thing that came to my mind. But it's been said/posted numerous times - no two Albins are alike!

Question for the OP: Unless the tank is rusted/ruptured why does it need to be replaced, parts not available?

The electric hook up was so rusted that it would trip the circut breaker when ever i would flip the switch on... After i removed it it was very rusted and in very bad shape.. No way even with all the new parts would it work... I believed it to be a fire hazzard....

Has anyone ever tried an on demand hot water heater? I know they make small units for individual fixtures and larger units for the whole house, but they are still much smaller than a heater with a tank.
Just a suggestion.

Good for at the dock on shore power or for those with genny's, but with an on-demand (tankless) unit you would lose the coolant loop water heating feature for hot water on the run and dropping the hook.

Plus an on demand electric water heater would only give about a half gallon per minute.

i have ordered a Atwood 4 gal water heater it has the smallest demensions of all the heaters.[13x13x16] the rest were 19 in long..... Will let you all know how i make out...
