Albin as a tender

While in Alaska Inner Passage near George Island we anchored in Pavlof Harbor. Next morning we had neighbors. A hundred footer+ Feadship "Ice Bear" with an Albin 27 or 28 as tender and a smaller runabout. What a set up for the big one . Shows he had good taste in picking the Albin as his fishing boat/ tender. With what the Feadship cost, he could have his pick of any boat.

She's 177' and carries over 20,000 gallons of diesel. Not too shabby!

You are correct. Surprised I missed that on the first view! Guess the "Mothership" is so darn big it threw me off!

I searched Google & Bing images hoping to find any other shots with Ice Bear & the Albin but found none. What I did find is that it has this fishing vessel tender called Ice Bear Cub. Could the 31 Albin have just been a local boat?

I think that's Ryan on MV Murrelet (2001 Albin 31) from Laughing Raven lodge he's a member of AOG. I met him at the California sportsman show in Sacramento CA. last winter

Looking at both boats there are some differences. For example: the 31 on the Laughing Raven site has it's name above the bow rub rail. The 31 in the pictures posted above has double whips, rooftop mast, life raft and a bow eye with a strap. Of course these could all be changes over time...

The 2nd shot on the Laughing Raven site with the 4 guys standing side by side really shows off the beam of the 31.

I went back and checked my camera chip to find a view of the Albin stern. If you zoom in you can see that the name is "IMP" from Jackson WY. A long way from Juneau, AK. Also, it has two windows compared to the "Murrelete". Locals said it had been around the ICE BEAR all summer. The owner must have had the "ICE BEAR CUB" elsewhere.

Well there you go. BTW, unlike the 28's, the 31 has 2 windows to starboard and 3 to port.

This Albin in on the hard right now in a local Seattle Boatyard and they yard said it is the new tender to Ice Bear. If I remember correctly, they used to pull a similar size Cabo as their tender. That's just awesome...

This past year I bought my 28 Albin from the east coast that was the tender for a 125' yacht. The owner whose last name is Miller also has a large sailboat with one named Miller Highlife, the other Miller Time and you guessed it the 28 Albin is Millerlite.........I'm keeping the name unless I come up with a better story. Tom.
