Kedging Off
I'm wondering about kedging off, and wonder what I would do without the primary sheet winches we had on our previous sailboat. Perhaps using the electric anchor winch could be done. I've seen sailboats with an electric winch on the stern for this purpose, and it worked very well - was a fairly small powerwinch on a 57' heavy ketch. I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks very much.

What size boat are you planning on running aground? It's something that I generally avoid!
Should mention that unlike sailboats most power boats are not intended to be at any significant angle of heel for very long. One of the big issues is leaking fuel through the tank vents.
All that said I would think your most likely source of winch like power would be a windlass with a drum.

We have an Albin 28TE. I assume you are referring to an anchor winch on the bow? I wonder if a shut off can be put on the tank vents? Thanks for your thoughts,

Yes, I was thinking along the lines of a Lewmar V2 with the Drum Gypsy.
Along with the fuel tanks you'd want to watch the vents for your water and waste. Plus of course bilge water ending up in strange places depending on just how far over you lay her. The 28 is a tough boat but the skeg is going to take a lot of sidewards strain if you have her hard aground. The whole idea makes me a bit nervous! I freely admit this is based more on opinion and not being familiar with the practice.

One day at the beach a few years ago mhanna and I watched a Parker go high and dry as the tide went out. She leaned over pretty good and we discussed how our skegged hull would do in that situation which prompted me to make this..
