i bought a photo tach to check my beede tach on my 315 yanmar and the directions said to put a small piece of reflective tape that came with the tach and put it on a shaft my problem is i dont know where to put this tape because there is no shaft I can get to the only thing I can see is the pullys for the fan belts any info on where to put the tape on this laser tach?

A little tight to get to on the engine box but certainly do-able. WEAR EAR PROTECTION

When I had Quest surveyed, the surveyor used his phot tach on the front of the transmission. You just have to adjust the reading for the reduction ratio of the transmission. For my boat thta is 2:1, so the engine rpm is 2X the transmission rpm.

what about the pully for the fan belts ?

Nope. You need to shoot the balancer on the crank pulley where my green arrow points. You won't have a problem..
