Do people on the East Coast have a fear of driving or something? 200 miles is not that far. So long as it was only in the winter, I'd gladly drive three hours to use the boat for a weekend.
Heck, I just got back from a weekend drive to Los Angeles. That was 2,400 miles round trip. When I was in Florida last month, people though it was crazy that we were driving from Daytona to Key West for the three day weekend. It didn't seem that far to me. It's by no means a short drive, but totally doable in one day.
The questionable part is whether or not you could afford the time to take it down the ICW in the fall and back up in the spring. I have no concept of how long that would take.
To me, boating is the priority. I've turned down job offers becuase they would take me away too far from the water. The reason I work is to make money for boating.

going south
Another consideration is the change of insurance. Many (if not most) companies hava a MUCH different rate for boats that are moored in N.C. vice Va. It's almost laughable cause the devideing line is only about 25 miles south of the Chesapeake bay entrance. But it's very rare to see even temporary ice near the mouth of the bay. Northern bay is a whole other deal.

I know we are off the escrow topic here so the moderator might move this post. (oh, that's right...it's me)
Anyway...Maryland is one of those "give it hour it will change" states. This morning the forcast for Baltimore was around 4" of snow. Now, at 8:45 it's changed to less than one inch and freezing rain. The temps around here for the last couple weeks have been highs in the 30s and lows in the teens. High humidity makes it bitter. Add a 15 knot wind and the wind chill drops another 5-10 degrees. The bay temp ranges 32-40 depending upon your area. But the creeks ice over.

I prefer to moderate in a rather forgiving way. I don't care if the conversation drifts off topic. Rather, I'm more concerned about spamming and personal attacks. So long as the thread STARTED on the right topic, I see no need to move it.
And since it's you and me who are dragging it off topic, I see little likelyhood that anyone is going to do anything about it.
