Windlass breaker/isolator

Post by Nancy »

How is this Simpson Lawrence windlass breaker/isolator supposed to work? It is on all the time with the green light lit. Are you supposed to be able to turn it off? Pushing the button does not release it to an out/off position as the graphic suggests (to me). Maybe it's broken? The windlass (Horizon 500) is operable although it needs a new gipsy or at least a good talking to.

Nancy - we have the same basic setup. The breaker button should be pressed firmly for a second or so - and should then pop out to cut power. If it doesn't then you probably need a new one. Our windlass works fine so far - if giving yours a good talking to works then please let me know - I'll use the same methodology on my dash clock.........

Forgot to mention - as with any remote foredeck windlass, the power (breaker) should be off when not in use in order to prevent either accidental operation when running or accidents when someone is around the anchor and windlass. A short in the wiring can cause havoc otherwise.....

If it's supposed to pop out, ours is broken. Time to take it apart, I guess, and see if we can convince it to work. Beyond that, any idea what to replace it with?

You could try contacting Lewmar tech support. They took over the Simpson-Lawrence brand a number of years ago. They make a number of different breakers that would probably work for you.

I have the number at my office, I'll try and post it tomorrow. They were helpful when I called them for assistance.

Thanks for the offer, Chris. I'll let you know if we need it. Might be a week or so before we're able to investigate further.
