Side Captains Window

Post by rcornejo »

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone or does anyone know how to replace a window on the 28 TE? Mine just broke over the weekend. I still don't know how that happened. I was simply closing the window to put the boat up in dry storage when the window just went into 100's of pieces. I did feel a little slight restriction when trying to close it; like it fell off the track. Just one more item I have to address! :x

The good news is that I did get the antifreeze changed correctly with everyone's help.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer!

Hi Roland,

I've been looking through old posts, and I can't find any reference to anyone actually getting the side windows out. I'd still try the "lift up and tilt out" method. Try both tilting "in" and "out", my recollection, which isn't always the best, is that the inside channel edge may be lower.

Hopefully someone else with a 28 can chime in.

The starboard window on my Albin was replaced several years ago. I believe if you remove the outside frame, the acrylic should lift and shift right out. I meant to adjust mind (Previous owner used 5200 and the window is difficult to slde) in the spring before boat went in water. I didn't want to drop screws and it would be more accessable to work on it from the outside while on the hard.

Hi Max,

You are absolutely right. My mechanic figured it out. I meant to post something about it. It is scary that a glass company told me I had to pull the entire frame out, cut it in half, put in the new window and then weld it close! Can you believe that? Wow. Freaked me out for a while.

Thanks again for all your help.

Happy fishing and boating!!
