$.02 worth. I didn't it take it for a sales job. If it wasn't and it was the poor guys' first post he's gonna feel like he's being hammered. The batteries did look interesting if they are as good as claimed.Perhaps he is the genius engineer who invented these batteries and has valid knowledge to impart. Lacking any evidence that he is associated with the site or the manufacturer, innocent until proven guilty would be my operating principle.

I must be one of the few here who have gel cells. I am no expert either but my gel cells have been in the boat for 8 seasons & still load test good.

The boat is set up so that I have 3 banks of batterys, 2 banks of 2 in parallel & a single. Any 1 bank or combo can be used at anytime. The notion that gel cells are for 'house' batterys only is a myth.

The gel is voltage sensitive for charging & does not produce the same CCAs as a wet cell of the same group size but it does have its own attributes.

Most chargers will have a selector for wet or gel cell charging. The engines regulator can be set for either gel or wet cell charging.

I have no complaints about my gel cells. After 8 years how could I? However, when it comes time to replace $$$$$$$, I am going AGM. They have the best of both the conventional wet cell & gel cell.

Alot of this really depends on my mood. This week I have been spending more time deleting the spam accounts then reading posts. Your right though, when he says he runs the company, he could be just an overworked manager trying to pass on information. Dale - if your out there your link is back.

I run Odyssey batteries. They are dry cell, 1/3rd the size, use regular charger and are not that much more expensive.

I took his post to mean he "ran" Odyssey batteries in his boat, not that he "owned and ran" the company. After seeing some of the BS posts that have popped up this week from spammers and scammers I can see where you're coming from, but......

I hear you man, I'm in NYC tonight, Mon & Tuesday. Taking the train back to RI Tuesday AM and stopping in Stamford CT for the closing on my '03 Albin 28TE, Phoenix. Then I gotta wait until April for sea trial and taking possesion. I'm about crawling out of my skin for spring!

Hey Ric - let me know if you're stopping by your boat any weekends between now and launch - I'm in New Canaan and it's a short drive to Stamford. I'm usually out of town during the week but the admiral would understand if I 'had' to go see a boat. It would be nice to meet a fellow AOGer and check out another 28. Are you at Brewers?

Thanks for your offer. We are closing Tuesday and the boat will stay in Stamford until April (present owner has paid storage though April). If we have a good weather window I am going to drive down and compound and put Rejex on the blue parts of the hull before launch, hopefully in March (see thread in Gen Maint on wax).

I will let you know if and when and if you can make it I would love to buy you lunch and chat about some systems questions I have. After that I will be steaming Phoenix to it's new home in Wickford RI (115 NM!) for my longest single voyage ever.

That is quite a story. I do always keep a handheld GPS aboard if I'm going outside Narragansett bay. I realize I did not answer your earlier question about Brewers and I don't know if you meant in Wickford or Stamford (there are Brewers everywhere it seems). The answer is no in both cases.
Gotta go now, wife just spotted a cockroach the size of a dog. I love NY!
