We sold our Island Packet sailboat during that time, and we learned some things to pass on, based on our experience and feedback from potential buyers:
1) Make sure your boat is clean. We got a lot of feedback on how nice our boat looked and how yucky other boats for sale were.
2) Remove as much of your stuff as possible. Boats look cramped, cluttered, and crowded to potential buyers when there are personal belongings and too much gear on board.
3) Post your listing in as many places as possible, including YouTube. My husband made a fantastic video and there were 1600 hits and much favorable feedback.
4) If the boat doesn't sell quickly, don't give up! Many years ago we took a previous boat to a broker to sell after 4 months of trying by ourselves. Within one month someone who saw the ads we had posted bought her...after the broker tried to sell him another, similar boat that he had been unable to sell for over a year. So, our ads sold that boat, but we still had to pay the broker and dockage at the broker's.
5) Consider the boating season. We put our boat on the market in early Sept. and many people came to look but did not buy. However, once spring came, several people who had previously seen her called again because they just hadn't wanted to buy a boat during the winter, and she was quickly sold.
Now, of course we want you all to be happy with your Albins, but if you have to sell, we hope this helps!
