bow thruster zinc

Post by rangoons »

I have a 28 TE. Can the bow thruster zinc be replaced by a diver or does the boat need to be hauled?

Thank You

I am not familiar with that thruster but I cannot imagine a zinc requiring a short-haul...

Agreed. Just be careful not to drop any parts! Do you have a beach you can nose into so you can stand/kneel while dipping your head under to change it?

I tried to find a manual online for your unit but had no luck. Assuming it's similar to the SE60 (same power) it looks like a very straight forward job. Remove the screw, remove what's left of the old zinc, fit the new one and replace the screw. You can use a paint stiring stick to "jam" the prop in the tunnel to hold the shaft still while you remove/replace the screw.

I always thought that my bow thruster was a Vetus. After copying down the model number, I believe its a Side-Power. Boat was built in 1998. Does this make sense?

Sure, Albin may have decided to fit a different manufacturer or the original buyer may have spec'd it. The 8112 is a Side-Power model number.

I have sidepower in my 2000 28'TE. Not sure which model thruster it is but this link is the zinc it uses

http://www.boatzincs.com/sm51180.html

the thruster zinc (Aluminum) last about twice as long as my other hull (zinc) zincs which is about 1 yr here in California.

Does anybody know the model # of the Side-Power thruster install in a 2000 28TE?

Just as a side note I have a three blade twin propeller unit.

Just because another boat has a certain model unit I would not make the assumption yours has the same. My boat is a 2000 and mhanna has a 2001. I can fill a sheet of paper with differences from the factory between the two boats...

+1 I think Bob over at Boat Zincs identified which zinc I need from a picture. I have every manual/instruction sheet for every piece of equipment on the boat except the bowthruster.

100 miles down to the boat so next time I'm down there you bet I'll get the info.

You might try contacting BoatZincs. Here's their Sidepower page. Any look familiar?

Good luck.

I also found a reference manual for the older 4hp Sidepower thrusters, which I believe yours is:

https://secure.toolkitfiles.co.uk/clien ... es/4HP.pdf

That led me to part number 6 1180, which BoatZincs has:

http://www.boatzincs.com/sm61180.html

Good luck.
