It may be wise to get the shaft checked for trueness (especially with all of the whacking you've been doing ) and when it's out you can change the shaft seal, check engine alignment, etc etc etc

I just took my prop off this weekend and it jammed up where yours is. I had to tap the prop back up the shaft a bit to take pressure off the key, then use a punch from the rear and push the key back up towards the front of the boat... then it slid right off. If the key is jammed I dont think you can get it off any other way. If you want, swing by my house and I will show you what I mean.

Nope but it's all part of putting it back together. FWIW, I have done the alignment on 2 28's out of the water and re-checked when in the water and it's been spot on on both. These boats don't flex..

Perhaps your boat was blocked just right. I would never go to the bank with saying alignment can be done on land. I have seen shafts move 2 inches on land and be perfect when back in the water. You never know. Everything flexes.RobS wrote: These boats don't flex..

Put my prop back on after getting it tuned by a great guy on Long Island. The prop looked good to me but he showed me that three blades had a pronounced cup, and the third did not. So its all better now and Im hoping to get about 150 more rpm out of the motor cause I maxed around 3750 on the factory tach. When I reinstalled the prop, instead od slamming down the jam nut, I drilled it and safety wired it... Much nicer and I know it will stay there. Spring is coming!

My prop is still there at the end of the shaft. Waiting for the weather to get above freezing. Mike do you have a 3 or 4 blade prop?

Hope not. Will look this afternoon when I start working on the fridge. That tranny looks like something out of Transformers going through metamorphosis. Hurst v-drives are pretty indestructable. So what got wrapped around the prop?
