davits for 28te

Post by Casco Bay »

I am looking to install davits on my 28te. Has anyone had success in doing this and if so what is the largest dinghy I can use I am hoping to get a 12 foot inflatable.

Hey! I have a 2002 TE28 with davits and hardware which I do not use. I'd sell them if you are interested. All in great shape.

I pulled out the davits this weekend. They are an "S" type mount onto the swim ladder. A block and tackle pulls the boat and davits up and secures them.

I decided to go for the St Croix davits quick release. They have made it through most of the season now and have been great. They come right off for fishing and hold the 9'8" dinghy and motor no problem. The only modification I made was to replace the pin and have a holed drilled in it so I could mount a lock below. They have worked out great.

We installed the St Croix removable davits this year as well. (note to self..projects are to be done over the winter). Need to do a little more work on the dingys but have carried both a 10' rigid and an 8' rollup. Both fit well and still allow use of the platform and door for boarding. We almost exclusively anchor or moor so this was a big consideration. The rigid is a bit heavier than I would like and at some point I will find something between the two we have but that is another day:) Will also be adding the 6" base extensions to get the dingy up a little more. It currently restricts the stern light and in rougher conditions I would like to get the outboard further from the water and spray from the exhaust outlet.

I was down working on the heater fan the other night (design change to be done over the winter) and grabbed a couple of pictures. The 8' pictured doesn't have a drain so it was left down for the weather.

Here is a shot from a distance. The locations I used were the outside corners. I do not have a transom door. It has been pretty solid all summer. The pulleys are a bit overkill (don't need them all) but is easy to lift and drop and has made exploring some new areas easier and kids love it.

Looks great! Did you use any sort of a backing plate? I'm certain this area of the combing is cored, but I'm concerned that all the torque on the forward screws would eventually pull out. You mention a lock below, I presume that means you access it from the livewell and or storage locker.

Thanks!

I did use backing plates. The area was cored and I drilled out an oversize hole, filled it with epoxy and re-drilled the correct size to avoid any core issues. I was able to access from both live wells (I have one either side)
