Just sold my sail boat. Been a sailor for 50 years. Looking at a 1995 Albin 28 with a 250 HP Cummins engine. Any suggestions or help you can give about this year and model boat would be appreciated.

Welcome to AOG & HAPPY THANKGIVING. Congraulations on selling your boat & the planned movement to an Albin. You will no doubt be pleased with the 28' and the Cummins makes a really nice package for you.
I know there are several 1995's in the group and I don't recall reading anything bad about yours. There are a lot of Penniuslars engines in those years and again most seem very pleased with the performance. However, to my mind the Cummins is a special find.
I know an excellent Diesel Mech in your town if you need help in the future. He is certifed Yanmar but does Cummins as well and likely is certified on Cummins as well. He has worked on a fellow atorney freind of mine "Willy" there who has the twin 140hp Tubor Yanmars in his 290 Luhrs since brand new.
Willy has had nothing but great things to say about him. My unsold boat is a 290 Luhrs and I call Willy's mech. from Calif. because I trust him.
My son just moved back to Sacramento, Ca from Tampa this past year. I know and like your area well.
My impression is their are fewer Cummins than Pennisulars and Yanmars in your years so see what the others say and don' wait to long for the deal.
My Luhrs "MIss Pearl" sadly remains unsold.

Welcome to Albin Owners Group.
Next suggestion - Buy it.
Last suggestion - You will need a burgee for your new boat.
I would suggest browsing the TE and Maintenance forums. There is a ton of information here about the TEs.Any suggestions or help you can give about this year and model boat would be appreciated.

I have the 250 Cummins and it is a great engine. Mine has almost 4000 hours and is still running strong. I can cruise at 18 knots at 2200 RPM when the bottom is clean but there is little reserve if it is loaded up with people, ice etc. If you fish with a lot of friends you may want 300 HP or greater, if only two this engine would be fine unless you are happy with 16 knots. It is a well known engine and the maintenance is less than half of the Yanmar.
