How to identify and order unknown parts?

Post by bvukelich »

Recently bought a 1996 28 TE...first boat. Looking forward to getting to know the group.

I'm having trouble identifying parts so I can locate them online. I know what most do, just don't know their formal name for ordering.

Pic 1. At the anchor locker, a hinge or something?

Pic 2. Vent. Can't find this part anywhere in 5 1/4" x 14". Prefer stainless but can't even find plastic.

Pic 3. Holes for rod holders, etc.

Pic 4. Unknown. The plastic is brittle and I just want to swap out.

I've been checking Defender, Jamestown Distributors, West Marine, Wholesale Marine, etc. Greatly appreciate any members input and direction.

Thank you,
Brandon

#2 is a louvered vent. #4 looks like a deck plate.

Thanks Nancy. Any idea where to find one 5 1/4" x 14"? These dims are apparently rare.

Not offhand, but second one from the bottom looks really close: http://www.detmarcorp.com/ventscollbxs.htm

It sure does. That's the closest one so far. I'm sure I can make it work. Thanks for the link!

This is the standard side vent for the starboard side of the pilothouse.

I would think that with a little modification of your rough opening you can make it work.
You will likely need the collector box too. It's included on the bottom of the same page.

You're welcome! I see Boatfix carries them. Their web site is difficult, but they're trustworthy and their prices are usually excellent.

Thanks for the assistance RobS. It's sure a lot easier to find items when you know what they're called...
