Stabilizer warning

Post by sweetwater »

A few weels ago I pulled my boat for the season to get some projects done. I wanted to stabilize my fuel so I purchased some "marine diesel stabilizer " from Stabil. I figured out my ratios and concluded that my 160 gallons of fuel required 32 Ozs of stabilizer. I poured the quart of Stabil into a 5 gallon jug and filled it the rest of the way with fresh diesel and poured that into my tank. As I finished pouring it into my tank, I noticed that there was a goopey sludge coming out of the container. Turns out that when premixed like that, the Stabil comes out of solution because it is in essence" overtreating" the 5 gallons in the jug. I opened my sending unit plate to see if it fixed itself when introduced into the larger quantity of fuel....Nope. Sludge in my tank. I am now in contact with the company and they seem very willing to make right on this issue. Needs a full tank cleaning and fuel polishing. SO... in the future.. Pour stabilizer into tank and add fuel . I did not do it that way because the boat was blocked, wouldnt be run and I wanted to be sure it was mixed in.
Just an FYI
