28 TE refrigerator
I was aboard a 28 TE yesterday - what a great boat! So well-conceived and so solid with great attention to detail. Now i'm thinking about whether it would work for how we'd use it. Silly but big question - what do you 28 TE owners do about refrigeration? I was really surprised at how small the fridge is. Granted, we're spoiled coming from a 32 Trojan. But still, that little bitty thing won't hold enough beer for the weekend, never mind the food! My first thought was to cut a bigger hole and put in a bigger fridge, but the curvature of the hull doesn't look like it will allow that.
So what's the solution? Coolers?

Re: 28 TE refrigerator
Yup coolers. If you don't fish, the fish box or the live bait well in the transom can be converted into a nice cooler!

I'll second Paul's comment. You can insulate the fish box, throw in some ice, and there is plenty of room for cold drinks and food.
Here's another thought about coolers:

Re: 28 TE refrigerator
Thanks for all the input! Great thread about coolers, retrofits, and portable refrigerators/coolers. John, what's your battery setup? I see the Edgestar draws 5.4 amps, which is about normal for, say a Norcold AC/DC or an AC running off an inverter. The fridge has always been our biggest power draw and the biggest challenge for battery configuration & maintenance.

Re: 28 TE refrigerator
We wouldn't go anywhere without our Igloo cooler. It's all white, easy to clean, and we center it against the transom. It fits nicely under our rear folding seat. We hardly use the refrigerator at all.
Sure keeps things cold for a long time.

Re: 28 TE refrigerator
We have the engine box style with no folding transom seat, so we have a large cooler with a cushion that serves very well as a seat. We have matching covers for that seat and the cushion on top of the engine box. For a weekend, it seems like plenty of refrigeration. Good luck.

Re: 28 TE refrigerator
We use an Engel 12 volt cooler/freezer that we love along with 2 big igloo's. Obviously, one igloo is for liquid refreshments. Use engel as a freezer and freeze wine bladders to keep coolers going and change out periodically. This can go on for days!
