NEED 2HP MARINE DINGHY ENGINE

Some of the little Hondas are either air cooled or their exhaust doest run below the water and they are noisy. I have heard a few in the anchorage and was quite surprised at the racket. Not at all like the larger models which are very quiet.

Thanks, I was about to order one. Will give that some thought before doing so. Just don't want to handle a big one. The elec. motor with battery to flop around did not work well either.

So you didn't like the electric motor? I have one that I never have used and was just getting ready to buy a battery for it to use on the dink. Not looking for speed, just a means to not have to row!

try to find a small 2-cycle. while they're not being made now there are still some to be found. lighter than 4 strokes, easier to handle, and no crank case oil to leak out or into cylinder if laid down for storage. probably get a 3-5 hp for the same weight as 2hp 4-stroker

Thanks for the advise. As to the elec. motor it was used to get from the dock (when water was up that much to the Cobalt on the mooring). Problem for me is the battery was heavy and never stayed put in the boat.
Did use the gel style as I did not want acid in the bottom of the boat. Pain dragging it back up to the cabin for recharging. However, the elec. motor was quite and light. Still have the elec. motor so can give it another shot with the Albin.
specail k: Any ideas where to look for an older 2 stroke? Are we talking need to have a separate fuel tank with the 2 cycle. The 4 stroke has built in so one thing to carry. I did read the comment they can be noisy.
Will check on the internet and see what is out there.

Around here the local Craig's lists are loaded with used outboards. Look for a few weeks and I'll bet you'll find something.

there are still dealers with left over new motors. you must seek them out. most operate on internal or external fuel tanks. i prefer the external tank so motor can be stored lying down. i'd start by calling around the local dealers and let it be known what you want, otherwise keep you eyes open for used. as far as noise, only loud when wide open throttle......personal choice.

I have owned a 38 lb Yamaha 2.5 hp 4-stroke since 2007. It is vary reliable and and fantastic on fuel.

Lots of good advise here. Finally decided that for me not having to flush out the salt cooled 4 cycle was important. So ordered the Honda aircooled today. Will report on it after some use. Seems like most liked it but the water cooled had some good reports as well.
Plan to be put in a fresh water flush system for the Albin salt water exchange on the Yanmars similar to what we did with the smaller Yanmars on the Lurhs during this winter.
Have some questions I will post on the General Discussion forum later on that issue.

The 2 hp Honda came into today from Tenn. internet order. Great price. Will comment later after a trial on how it goes. Probably next spring at my present rate.

Oh, please do keep us posted. We have a 5hp Honda 4-stroke that we used for our dinghy with our sailboat, but it is too big and heavy to mount on our Albin's rail. Afrayed Knot, we were glad to see your posting and will have to look into the Yamaha.
