See my reply in thread on propeller shaft stuffing box (3rd on down)
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4000&p=23571&hilit=british#p23571
As stated my above thread, the thread is British, (ie 12tpi) not US NPT or metric.
Betcha that's the problem.

Roy: Thank you! I NEVER would have figured that one out. I never even heard of "British nuts" -- now I know about British Standard Whitworth (BSW) sizes. This site is an invaluable resource. ~Rob

Re: Rudder Stuffing box
Rob Crow,
Your issue with non-standard Taiwanese nut threads reminds me of the horror stories I used to hear during the late 1970s when I worked at a Seattle boatyard that imported and commissioned yachts from Kaohsiung, Taiwan - mostly sailboats like CT, Tayana and Baba. We had many cases where threads were totally different from one part to another in the same lot, and they were neither US, British or metric. This nearly drove the yard's manager bonkers and cost thousands of dollars in transpacific airline flights and phone calls. Given all this, most likely you will need to re-thread these or have new parts made.

Re: Rudder Stuffing box
The size I believe is 1/2" x 12 BSW thread. This is a British standard Imperial size.
