FUEL CONSUMPTION FOR 26 ALBIN WITH VOLVO PENTA D4

Post by JIMBO44 »

AM CONSIDERING A 2006 26 WITH VOLVO PENTA D4, WOULD LIKE SOME INFO RE: FUEL CONSUMPTION, 6-8 KNOTS, AS WELL AS AT HIGHER CRUISE. ALSO HELPFUL WOULD BE COMMENTS RE: ENGINE RELIABILITY AS WELL AS THE BOAT ITSELF. THIS WOULD BE USED FOR 3-4 DAY CRUISES IN FLORIDA WATERS AS WELL A SHORT CRUISE TO BAHAMAS (60 MILES) IN GOOD WEATHER.

The 26 is not a common boat around here. I did find this spec sheet.

My guess is around 5 GPH at hull speed.

Thank you very much for your assistance, Jcollins, my goal here is slow cruising, great fuel consumption,
and no trouble from the boat/engine. I would like to keep the boat on my lift (16K rated). Have found the 26 locally with low hours, engine as stated 2006 year. Price abound 59K. Any further tips would be appreciated. The boat market is in the real doldrums around here and i feel that this is my opportunity to get a good buy on a good boat.

JCollins wrote above, that you might expect to burn "around 5 GPG at hull speed." I know from his many posts that he is very thorough and knowledgeable, so I merely will ask whether there was a decimal point before the numeral that was left out. On my larger 28TE, 5 GPH would move us along at a much faster speed than hull speed that I calculate is about 6.6 kts. Did I err?

No sir. Err you did not. My mistake. .5 would have been a better answer. I average 4.2 or so for the season. I went back and looked at "end of season totals" post. Seems that most average about the same.
Jimbo44 - Sorry if I confused. .5 (1/2) GPH may be a better answer if you stay at 6.83 knots. Based on 26' LWL. (Which I am not sure about)
Given that it's an I/O it may even be better? I dunno...That being said I would think the 26 has a much different feel than the 28. I/O, no keel, 8'6" beam, 6000 pounds. It will handle better at docking with the I/O.

I should have added this link in the original post. http://www.albinmarine.com/26tournament ... ament.html

Thank you all for the knowledgable and prompt replies. I was somewhat surprised by the first estimate of fuel consumption but i am an Albin newbie so who was i to argue. The final answer is exactly what i was looking for, including the relatively easier docking input. Thanks again.

Still looking.
