WOT.....3000rpm??

Post by special k »

ok i think i know the answer to this but i want to run it by you guys.

yesterday, while waiting out the fog i stopped at fords in mystic to put on fuel and get one of their awesome lobster rolls.
as the fog was lifting i head across fishers sound and tried to let her sprint for a while. well the 6lp would not get over 3000rpm at about 17-18k. normal for my boat wot is 3800rpm and 24k. she comes up to 3000 normally and without hesitation but stops there. if it were filters wouldn't it labor to get any speed?

fuel issues?? just had a service done that included both fuel filters. fords moves a lot of fuel and i never had issues there. any other items that present this way?

opinions appreciated.

Yes I agree that the lobster rolls there are awesome! One is a meal.
Have you tried the chowder? Also excellent. Chris is doing a great job.
Maybe it was the "addition" of the lobster roll that is keeping the RPM down?

Ok seriously I believe that if it were filters it would probably come up to 3000 slowly...I assume at 3000 you are on plane, so the struggling would be to get over the hump and clogged filters would show a problem there.
(But on another note I did get a bad load of fuel 15 years ago at Fords...his filter broke and I didn't know) it.
Are there any other clues you can give us? Is there any black smoke? Does the engine feel like it's laboring? Any vibration? Is the 3000 rpm steady once it gets there?

no smoke, no vibrations, seems to get to 3000 without laboring.

perhaps i'll run this by the guys at bayside diesel since they just serviced it.

Have you checked the bottom? This year has been very bad in the Chesapeake. Heavy growth will cause similar issues.

Is this the first time out since the fuel system was serviced? I was just thinking they may have not fully opened the fuel cock after the service was finished. I think that could give the symptom you are reporting.

I was in Mystic (via truck, not boat) this weekend and saw your boat when I was out. It was Sunday and it looked like you were not there otherwise I would have stopped by..

At 3000rpm is your speed what it normally is at that rpm?
