Shaft Seal

Post by stevediebold »

I have a 2003 35 Command Bridge. Does anyone know if the shaft has a lip seal or a face seal? How often should they be maintained. Also, does the rudder have a seal or is it a traditional packing gland?

The rudder should have a traditional packing nut shaft seal. The prop shaft seal is likely one of three types, Traditional, PSS or Tides. The PSS and Tides are dripless. The Tides would have a bright blue hose between the shaft log and seal carrier. Post some photos.

The Tides has a lip seal. The PSS are face seals.
