Filling 40' fuel tanks

Post by mike66 »

Okay, so there's no such thing as a dumb question......When I fuel up my new to me 40, do I fill both sides through the two fills, or are the tanks connected in a way that filling one side circulates fuel to both sides? In my gas boat I had three tanks controlled by ball valves and three seperate fills, but I'm not familiar (yet) with how my single SP135 is plumbed to the two tanks. Seems like there are lots of lines that I haven't fully traced out yet, with both the engine and genset.

On mine I have an equilization line, but it is only 3/8 diameter. Therefore you really need to fill both tanks as it takes a while to equalize. Plus if you fill one side heavy you'd have to weight the other side so the tanks could end up level.

My 36 is fill both tanks separately. Different than your gas, you now have return lines going back to each tank which doubles the confusion to sort out. The previous owner redid all the fuel line from the tank. I will take pictures. We are leaving for a couple of weeks so will post when back

Thanks to you both. Laziness in not wanting to drag the hose around to the other side!
