Prospective buyer... another 48 NSC??

Post by safari36 »

Hi all,

I've read the posts here about the shortcomings of the 48' North Sea Cutters currently on YachtWorld in CT and VT, but now there's a new one... It's in Key West FL, and it's a 1984, according to the listing. The NADA book doesn't show 48' NSCs being made in '84. What were their production dates? Could this boat be a preproduction test boat? The hull is clearly that of the NSCs. It's now powered with 420 hp Yanmars. I note that the owner has replaced all of the side windows with larger ones; I'm betting that was to cure defective original installations. Is there anything I should especially be worried about on this boat? Is the hull solid glass or cored? I assume the decks are cored. Would they be cored with baltek or foam? The price is on the high end, but if all is as listed, what do you all think?

Thanks for any help!

Generally boats of that era were cored with balsa , foam, or plywood.
Most that I have encountered were ply or balsa.
That is all boat brands, not only Albins.
