As I am one of the 10 who own the I/O version of the 28 ,Im looking for some info on the dual prop size that they used on the Volvo 280-290 DP out drive .
I had a set of beat up volvo DP B4,s on the boat when i bought it lst year , I replaced it with a new set of same this spring . Big difference in size and pitching of old and new [must of been reworked] Now looking like I am over wheeled a bit . Still getting 23kts at WOT but rpm,s dwn and labouring to come out of the hole . Is there any other members out there who have any info on the I/O and drives and prop size ?
Already been around boat diesel for about 3 hrs since we launched and still cant find out the original prop size . but info I am getting is all go smaller but at 800 a pop -what size
Thx all

Re: Albins with I/O
It is very rare that any prop out of the box will perform to the specs of your boat, even if it is the recommended prop for your set-up. I'm not a pro, but have been in your shoes.
In lieu of me not having an I/O:
Most props need to be reworked after their initial live test. Prop Scan or MRI shop will put you in the right place. Make sure your boat is loaded as per how you will usually run her and make note of the wot RPMs vs what Volvo says it should be. If you haven't, have a mechanic check to be sure your tach is accurate. I'd contact a prop shop or the dealer you purchased the props from 1st to see if there is anything else they may need to assist in the reworking / adjustment or letting you try another prop.
I've always found myself reworking new out of the box props to dial them in. Not every boat is configured and loaded the same way. Thus this generally needs to be done. The only time I haven't needed to do this was on small light runabouts. On my former 28 twin 200 outboard center console the dealer I bought the engines from let me demo 2 different size SS props of the same type ... one too high on the RPMs and the other too low. Ended up needing one set tuned right out of the box too get it right. These were both Mercury props recommended for the particular engine and set-up. For my Cummins out of the box, RPM's were too high and needed to tune the prop down and low and behold a slight deck shimmy disappeared.
Don't be discouraged .... call the dealer that sold you the props and a prop shop or maybe they are one in the same. They should want to get it right as well.

Re: Albins with I/O
Call Brian at Valley Propellar in Ventura, CA. His telephone number is 805 644-5055. He is a good guy and will tell you what you need to know and can sell you some new props if needed. He normally will let you exchange props you buy from him if you are not satisfied. He will need to know what you planing speeds are, max speed and RPM's etc. I assume you have a diesel. I understand a diesel duoprop drive will work best with A Series props. With Volvo's generally do not adjust the duoprops, just change to a different set.
Good luck.
Good luck.
