Thank you to everyone who encouraged me (with guidance) to bring our "new" 2007 28 TE from NJ to ME.
Captain Paul M. (contact me for recommendations and particulars) was excellent and provided great tutoring. With fog 60-70% of the time i learned tremendous seamanship.
Clearest part of trip was NYC Harbor through East River to LI - seing Lady Liberty and Manhattan from Explorer was a thrill of a lifetime.
We picked up my brother at the Cape Cod Canal and he and I drop of Cpt Paul and piloted on without incident to my home.
The trip was absolutely incredible, costs were less than expected and boat performed great. Engine hours were 37 for the trip, fuel burn 6gph, overnight fees in NY/RI $75. - Kennebunkport, ME $130.00- ouch.
We love the boat and we cannote wait to fish and play all July/Aug/Sept.
Thanks again to all, let us know if your in the area. (if i can figure out how to post photos I will )

Michael,
So glad that you decided to "brave it" and make the trip! You've had a chance to experience something that most people, even the boaters, don't. And seeing Liberty from the water is pretty cool too, isn't it? AND you can tell people you've been through "Hell Gate" and lived to tell the tale!
Post your story in the cruising section, along with some pictures! There are instructions in the photos sub-forum and if you have any questions I'd be happy to help. (Just a note - there's a limit of 20 pictures in a post. Not sure why I know this... )

Nice trip Capt. Having someone aboard with good skill is invaluable and provides a great learning experience. Fine job!
Picking your brother up in the Canal must have added a new excitement to the trip after having a nice ride through NYC seeing Lady Liberty and then coming up LI Sound. Learning to pilot in the fog is not such a bad experience especially being from Maine.
Glad you're looking very much forward to a great summer. Enjoy your new ride!
