Will Honda EU2000i Run AC?

Post by elad »

Thinking of buying a Honda EU2000i Companion generator and the conversion kit to run it on LP. Can anyone tell me if the Honda will run the AC on my 28TE? If the Honda can run the AC will there be any power left over to run say the micro wave or lights?

should run the and lights with no problem..Add to that the surge the Micro may add, not sure since a micro draws a bit of short term power

The 2000 has to be switched out of economy mode to run the AC.

Where do you place the Generator while it's running?
And stow it when it's off?

Thanks

I am planning to put the generator on the swim platform when running and probably behind the mates chair when not. May even simply leave everything on the swim platform with a good cover when not in use.

We have use the 2000i to run a 5500 BTU AC. Check the amperage draw on the AC you are looking at and the rest of you power consumption to see if it is 8 amps or less. Although the 2000i puts out more it will easily run 8 amps without running at full speed all the time.

I haven't hooked it up yet but I will this summer. If memory serves, the data plate on the AC says "Max Draw 13.8 amps" I believe that the 2000 puts out 13.2 max. AC should only draw that much at start-up. It's close enough that although it should work, my understanding is that it's very hard on the electric motors. I was told I should install a "hot shot" capacitor (I think) in the system to provide the required amps at startup and eliminate the lag as the generators spools up, even when not in the economy mode. By the way, I think Albin offer 2 different size AC units. Check to see what the data plate calls out. The other thing I don't know is whether or not the AC will draw over 13 amps each time the compressor starts or only if both fan and compressor start at the same time.
Probably easier to just do it and see what happens huh :)

The EU2000 puts out 13.8 continuous (1600 watts) but can handle up to almost 17 amps (16.7 amps, 2000 watts) for motor startups and such. So you're probably ok John.

Just make sure to add in the AC pump, It's probably another 2 amps (max) or so.
