pintle broke on mast boom
My daughter Rose and I were standing up the mast after winter storage and the pintle that attaches the vert to the horizontal boom went boom and lightly clocked me on the noggin. Rose is a materials engineer, so we examined the break in the bronze. Seems to be sand from original casting in the center. Not much had been holding it all these years. I cold run over to old mister Wong who made it, but Kaching China is a long ride. A local machinist is making one. Good news on my w wiper replacement job. My weird science and geometry worked. I have maximized wiper path angle pressure and size. Woo HOO! no more toy wipers. best wishes to all and goodnight Mrs. Calabash wherever you are.

Did it knock any sense into you?boom went boom and lightly clocked me on the noggin
Are you making the replacement out of stainless? My hardware is all stainless.
Please post some pics of the wiper system when you have a chance. Sounds interesting.

Re: pintle broke on mast boom
Our pintle went this year too - I had a local metal shop rig it back. I think this is an event for all to look at if you still have the original hardware. The material is not great, espcially due to the rocking motion. The boom attaches to the mast, and there is a small gap on either side of the metal. watch the pressure this puts on that tiny piece of metal during regular boat rocking motion (especially if there is any load on the boom). I think a couple of washers will enhance the piece, but a worth while inspection for anyone.

The base of my mast has a crack in it. Can the bronze be welded?
