Double Lucky wrote:We don't have this concern here in the Sunshine State, but I was just wondering if quality spirits, Jack Daniels for instance, would "winterize" your boat system? Solves the problem of poisoning the water. Also, this is environmentally friendly as there is no toxic chemical to dispose of. Where as with anti-freeze, you buy it just to throw the anti-freeze away. Quality spirits would be recycled naturally when the winter is over. If this would work, "spring cleaning" would take on a new and fun perspective.
Actually, a friend of mine uses the cheapest vodka he can find to winterize his fresh water systems. I never thought of it as Double Lucky has put it, but it does seem to be more chemical friendly. I may have to give it a try next season.

Ha! What do you suggest? Key West Lager, Smokin Oyster, or Brooklyn Lager?
You bring the beer...I'll taste it with you!

I have an 06 and I can take the line off of the water tank which allows the tank to drain. I then take the 90 degree fitting from the tank and use it to connect the in and out lines of the water heater together.
Open the water heater drain valve and allow it to drain completely. Leave the valve open for the winter.
Then take a short piece of hose (I use about 3 ft of garden hose) and fit it over the line that you removed from the fresh water tank. You may need a small hose clamp to secure it. Put the other end of the hose into a bottle of antifreeze. Run the pump until you see pink coming from all faucets (run both cold and hot). I leave the galley and head faucets in the open position and remove the handle from the transom shower. You are done with the fresh water system. This uses about 3 gals. of anti freeze. Less if you are conservative.
