Need a 2011 Boat cocktail

Post by Legacy »

As many of you know, the crew aboard "Legacy" chooses an annual cocktail to serve guests. And each year you guys come up with some goodies and classics. Getting mixed reviews on "The Rooster" as proposed by a True Grit fan. Any new cocktail ideas welcome. The Rooster recipe is below:

The Rooster

1 1/2 oz Wild Turkey 101
1/2 oz cinnamon schnapps laced with gold flakes
4 oz Sarsaparilla or any root beer
Salted rim (provides the grit)

I reccommend a Pain Killer

Equal parts Dark Rum, OJ, Pineapple Juice and Cream of Coconut. Shake very well and serve over ice with a cherry and some fresh ground nutmeg

It originated at the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke in the Brittish Virgin Islands (so named because you will get wet beaching your dingie, but so what) They use Pussers rum. any will do.

In a pinch, I will substutite coconut rum for the cream of coconut as the bars in Michigan don't usually have the Cream of Coconut. Keep the other rum in too! It helps to kill the pain

Oh, all those drinks sound so good! Summer, where are you? Here is the recipe for an Ocracoke Hurricane (from Howard's Pub):
1 oz. rum
1 oz. coconut rum
1 oz. triple sec
2 oz OJ or pineapple juice
2 oz cranberry juice
Shake with ice and pour.

If you run out of rum, here's my version of a margarita.
1 1/2 oz. tequila
1 oz. Peachtree schnapps
juice of 1 lime
Mix all ingredients in a shaker with cracked ice, strain, and serve in a salt-rimmed glass. You can also use a blender if you want it frozen.

Here's my version of margarita....which get served very often.....
just remember 2-1-2
2 measures of tequila
1 measure of triple sec
2 measures of Rose's lime juice.
Mix all ingredients in a shaker (or in a gallon plastic contsainer), strain, and serve in a salt-rimmed glass (I personally do not like salt rimmed ) on the rocks

To make it really intersting add 1 measure of Blue Curacao and call it a "blue margarita"
Just make sure your guests don't spill any on teak decking

Here's a simple winner that our guests ask for over an over. Great with food too. For non-drinkers, eliminate the vodka....

Summer Boogie Punch:
Large Tumbler or Plastic Cup
Ice
Wedge of lime
Vodka
Equal parts Fresca and CranRasberry (Ocean Spray Regular or Lite)

Enjoy!
