bilge drainage starboard aft...

Post by tomcat rio »

... if i lift the starboard aft hatch cover(albin 28 te), i sometimes have excess water in there. outboard of the large stringer. i think its rain water. in any case, it doesn't seem to drain. it just collects, like they might have forgotten to drill a drain hole. i just scoop it out with a sawed off clorox bottle. anybody with a 28 te ever notice this?
thx.

I have noticed water on the outside of the stringers. I checked and it is fresh water on my boat. The drains from the hatches have leaked on my boat. After removing and rebedding the drains and making sure the hose clamps are tight it seemed to pretty much dry up this area. The drain hoses are just kind of hanging and have no support. I am trying to tie them up where I can so they don't pull on the hoses and clamps. Maybe yours is the same? I have a 94 28TE

water shouldn't collect below deck. it should drain to a bilge pump pick up.

Unfortunately, it does not appear to me that Albin drilled their stringers to allow every drop to make it to the bilge. We have the same problem in some of our compartments. My guess is that they wanted to preserve the watertight integrity of the stringers. If anyone here decides to modify their boat to permit better drainage, make sure you seal up the inside of any holes you drill, so water is not introduced into the wood stringers.

...i had bailed it out on wedesday. and it is pretty full this morning. so i guess its the hatch drains leaking. no big deal..
