proper oil
I have a 2000 Cummins 450hp C series. The manual calls for 15W-40 oil with a CE/SG rating. I cannot find any oil with a CE/SG rating. I found Shell Rotella T 15W-40 with the following ratings: CI-4 plus, CI-4, CH-4, CG-4, CF-4, CF/SI, SL. It also says it meets Cummins 20078 requirement. Is this oil OK my engine? Is CE?SG an old rating?

Don't even know what is recommended for my 1996 Cummins 5.9L. Can't go far wrong with Rotella T 40W. Being a warm climate boat I don't think I have to worry too much about viscosity for start ups in cold temps.

Proper oil for ME...makes ME happy....makes ME feel like I'm using the best possible oil for MY boat....I have used this for years....even in twin VT903 Cummins...with great results......and without starting a flaming oil thread.....I use....
Amsoil Marine Diesel 15w45 Synthetic
and yes, it meets all the current required standards.

Hey Chief, spent some time on THT recently? Some folks out there appear to have nothing they won't slam.chiefrcd wrote:Proper oil for ME...makes ME happy....makes ME feel like I'm using the best possible oil for MY boat....I have used this for years....even in twin VT903 Cummins...with great results......and without starting a flaming oil thread.....I use....

The good news is that AOG is a bit 'friendlier'!
Funny that even as I started reading your post I knew which oil it would be!

No, I change my oil every fall just before I lay her up....I'm putting about 100 hours on her a year. As far as the transmission, I change that every year as well with Amsoil ATF and the reason I change it each year as I troll a lot....and they don't make a trolling valve for my velvetdrive....so I kick her in and out of gear a lot during the fall striper season.
