Outboard Storage Options

Hi all,

When we purchased our TE 28 in May, the dinghy outboard was stored on the transom door. John Collins pointed out that this location can result in bent transom door hinges. Not good. I have since moved it to our home until we go cruising. So I am wondering where others store their dinghy outboards. I already have snap davits and don't really want to spend the $ to install something more elaborate, although that's an option..

Hi Dave,
Many just lay the outboard in the cockpit. Not the best place. Others do use the door and yes it can cause problems with the hinges. It's a trade off. You could go years without a problem. Replacing the hinges is probably less expensive than adding more hardware to the transom. I tow my dingy with the motor on it.

Dave,
I installed a removable SS mount on the back of the passenger helm seat.

I hang the outboard from it with 2" rubber block under the skeg to take most of the weight. It's very secure and out of view and the weather when the canvas is closed. Easy install with access for the backing plate by removing the drawer unit.

Over the past winter I removed the drawers behind the helm seat and replaced them with a nice mahogany cabinet that locks. I had a bracket welded up. I can now lift the engine off my arch and lower it into the bracket for storage. It fits a 6hp 4 cycle out of the weather and prying eyes very nicely.
