Off to Portland again, this time not in the Albin. A friend of mine owns Winslow Marine and asked if we would be interested in joining in the festivities of the Tugboat Muster as part of the 2010 MS Regatta. How could I say no.
We were greeted at Portland Pier by 6, 75+ foot tugs, ours being the one with a full band on the 2nd deck. A few hundred people were around punishing thier liver, munching on bbq and listening to the music
After a couple of hours of that, we were off to parade through Portland Harbor

Then it was time for the main attraction, the races. All 6 were lined up and run down a course somewhere around 1000'

and then the push wars
Overall, a great time. There were also lobster boat races, the fastest somewhere in the 68 mph range. I think we topped out at somewhere around 12 knts.

Kim,
Great pictures. Thanks for sharing. Lobster boats going 68? I would like to see that.
I always miss the tugboat races in Baltimore. Sounds like a good day.

As a former Albin 28 TE owner who now has an American Tug AT-34 (but still visits this site almost every day) I am Glad to see tugs get "airtime" on the AOG site. Best of both worlds!

Great pics Kim!
That looks like a very fun day! There's something about those big, classic looking tugs that I just find fascinating. I'd really love to see the race and the "push wars", must be quite a sight!
